General Notes
The Snapdragon 8 Elite represents Qualcomm's most powerful mobile chipset to date, featuring the new custom Oryon CPU cores (based on their acquisition of Nuvia). The Adreno 830 GPU delivers exceptional performance with enhanced ray tracing capabilities. Built on TSMC's 3nm (N3E) process, it shows impressive performance gains over the 8 Gen 3. The chip demonstrates excellent gaming performance across all tested titles, maintaining stable frame rates even in the most demanding scenarios. Power efficiency is good but slightly higher consumption than Dimensity 9400 under peak loads. Game optimization for Snapdragon remains industry-leading with most titles offering dedicated profiles. The integrated Snapdragon X80 5G modem provides excellent connectivity. AI performance reaches 45 TOPS with the upgraded Hexagon NPU.
Pros
Industry-leading GPU performance with best-in-class Adreno 830; Custom Oryon CPU cores deliver exceptional single and multi-core performance; Superior ray tracing implementation compared to competitors; Excellent game compatibility and optimization; Stable sustained performance with minimal throttling; Strong AI capabilities with 45 TOPS NPU; Advanced ISP supporting 200MP camera sensors; Industry-best 5G connectivity with X80 modem; Excellent developer ecosystem and tool support; Consistent high frame rates across all AAA mobile titles; Fast LPDDR5X-5300 memory support
Cons
Higher power consumption compared to Dimensity 9400 under sustained load; Peak temperatures can reach 46°C+ during intensive gaming; Slightly more expensive than competing flagship chipsets; Some thermal throttling evident after 30+ minutes of gaming (though minimal at ~10%); Battery drain rate slightly higher than competition; Premium pricing reflected in device costs; Oryon cores still being optimized for efficiency in some workloads
