At the hardware level, the POCO C81 is powered by the Unisoc T7250 chipset, a 12nm platform that sits firmly in the ultra-budget tier. It is paired with up to 4GB of physical RAM, with memory expansion features pushing usable RAM higher depending on configuration, alongside 64GB or 128GB of internal storage expandable via microSD. This setup will not impress power users, but it is not designed to. Instead, it reflects a calibrated balance for markets where app usage revolves around Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and messaging platforms. Performance is stable for daily workloads, but sustained multitasking and gaming will expose its limits quickly, especially under thermal constraints common in tropical markets like the Philippines.


The display is one of the more aggressive inclusions at this price point. A 6.9-inch IPS LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate is clearly meant to deliver perceived smoothness rather than pixel density, as it retains an HD+ resolution. From an analytical standpoint, this is a deliberate trade-off. Higher refresh rates improve user perception more immediately than resolution increases, especially for first-time smartphone buyers or those upgrading from older 60Hz devices. Brightness levels reaching roughly 800 nits make it usable outdoors, although color accuracy and contrast remain typical of budget LCD panels. Still, the sheer size of the display reinforces the device’s positioning as a content consumption tool above all else.


Where the POCO C81 becomes unusually competitive is battery strategy. The 6300mAh cell is significantly above the segment average, and in real-world usage, this translates to multi-day endurance for light users and a full day of heavy use without compromise. Charging remains limited to 15W, which is slow by modern standards, but this is offset by the inclusion of reverse wired charging, effectively turning the phone into a power bank. This is a feature that resonates strongly in regions with inconsistent power access or for users managing multiple low-power devices. In practical terms, POCO is prioritizing reliability over speed, which aligns with broader usage behavior observed during the pandemic years.


Camera hardware is predictably conservative. A 13MP main sensor paired with an auxiliary lens and an 8MP front camera delivers functional imaging for social media but little beyond that. Image processing leans heavily on software optimization, and while daylight shots are acceptable, low-light performance remains limited.
